How Used Treadmills Can Save You A Bundle
By Dean Iggo
Buying a used treadmill to complete your home gym is an excellent idea. Treadmills are incredibly user friendly pieces of exercise equipment. They require no special skills for use, all you have to know is how to walk, and people with joint problems find the surface to be a great shock absorber. Moreover, walking or jogging on a treadmill means you do not have to brave the elements just to get a good workout. People enjoy having treadmills in their homes so they don't have to pay costly gym fees just to get the benefits of a treadmill.
However, purchasing a new treadmill can sometimes cause the same sticker shock purchasing a gym membership can. That's why buying a used treadmill for your home can be a great idea.
What To Look For In A Treadmill
First, consider the horsepower. Weaker motors wear out easily. If this is a piece of equipment you intend to own for some time, you do not want something that will wear out. Do not confuse this with peak horsepower. You are looking for continuous duty horsepower.
Second, consider treadmill speed. They are built for either walking or running, usually not both. Buy one that fits your activity needs. Next, decide whether or not you want a treadmill with a program. This works for some people, and others really hate it. Go with whatever fits your needs, because if you do not want one, don't spend the extra money for it. You also want to think about belt size, the durability of the deck, the type of incline you desire, and the hand rail options you want.
Buying Used
If you purchase a used treadmill at a garage sale or through another local method of "for sale" advertisements, you are getting just that - a used treadmill. However, if you want to save yourself some money, but you also want a bit more quality than you can find at a garage sale, consider a reconditioned or remanufactured treadmill. These, at times, can be just as good as buying a new machine.
There are a number of great online retailers who sell used, reconditioned or remanufactured treadmills. Your best bet is to compare a few of these different online retailers for additional costs (e.g shipping) and customer testimonials and treadmill warranty. Just because you are paying less doesn't mean you should expect a poor machine or quality of service.
