The best treadmills cost thousands of dollars. Buying a used treadmill can save you hundreds of dollars and there's quite a large market in buying used treadmills and you can find really good deals. However, there are many pitfalls in buying used home treadmills. Here are a few tips on buying used treadmills.
First off, many ask: Where can I buy used treadmills? The best place to start looking for your second hand treadmill is directly from fitness clubs; classified ads; store chains like Play It Again Sports; and online from places like CraigsList and eBay. In many ways, where you buy a used treadmill is more important than where you'd better a new one.
Buying from a store will almost certainly give you some comeback as most will offer some form of warranty. More importantly, these stores will give the used treadmill a service and make sure it's suitable to be sold on. But buying from individuals, especially online, gives you no guarantees of anything.
As mentioned, gyms also sell old treadmills. However, these will have seen long service and will have been abused by all and sundry. Also, you have to ask yourself why the gym is selling it. They may tell you that it's because there's a new model of treadmill they want to install, but can you believe them? Maybe, it's because the treadmill is on its last legs.
However, gyms do use only the best models and if you can believe them about replacing old models with new models, you may be getting yourself a deal. But, it's your decision.
By far the best place to get a used treadmill is from someone who bought it new and then just didn't bother to use it. The world is full of people who buy something only to never use it; how many items have you ever bought but never used? You can find people getting rid of unused treadmills from family and friends, classified and the internet. Before you buy, just make sure that the treadmill looks like it's brand new.
Before buying any used treadmill, check out how old it is. Find out if any of the warranties are still valid. Many treadmill manufacturers give long warranties on the frame, but this is the least of your concerns. The most crucial things to check are the motor, treadbelt and electronic components. Most warranties will cover a motor for a maximum of 5 years, the belt for a maximum of two and parts and labor for 1 year.
When buying a used treadmill buy one that is a recognized quality brand. A treadmill that was built with quality components has a better chance of lasting a long time. Also, buying a quality used treadmill from a well-known brand means you'll probably still be able to get spare parts. Good quality brands include; Landice, Bowflex, Trimline and PaceMaster.
Ask the previous owner lots of questions. Find out if they were the only owner. If somebody had the treadmill before them, it's probably not worth your money no matter how low the cost.
Buying used treadmills is a great way to save money. Knowing where to buy a used treadmill and what to look out for is vital if you aren't going to be buying an expensive piece of junk.
